Nutrition: what??? After a hard class or rehearsal in the studio, reach for an icy-cold, chocolate milk? That's right. The chocolate milk you drank in grade school replaces just as many nutrients as sports drinks. "Chocolate milk has an optimal ratio of carbohydrates to protein to help refuel tired muscles," says Joel M. Stager, Indiana University kinesiology professor. Since intense exercise reduces the muscles' supply of stored glucose, a main source of fuel for energy, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends taking a serving of carbohydrates within 30 minutes of working out to maximize replacement. With all this goodness, it doesn't make sense to buy a pricey sports drink when you can get a gallon of chocolate milk for the same price!
Anatomy: Poor posture can lead to fatigue, muscle strain, joint stress and pain, all of which are no good for dancers- who usually pay attention to theirs in class, but not necessarily out. Here are some tips from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for improving your posture when you're not dancing: - Use a rolled-up towel to relieve lower back strain when you are sitting. - Adjust your chair's height or how you're sitting so your feet are flat on the floor. When standing in place for a long time, put one foot up on a stool to keep from straining your lower back.

An internationally recognized, versatile dancer known for her grace, intensity and glamour. Danilova's professional career began in 1911 when she joined St. Petersburg's Imperial Ballet. She met George Balanchine as a young dancer and began a lifelong relationship with him — both professional and personal (they lived together for several years but never married). She also danced with what is known today as the Kirov Ballet, for Sergei Diaghilev and with the Ballets Russes. She came to the United States in the 1940s with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, which became an American company with the dawn of World War II, and became an American citizen in 1946. With the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, she partnered with Frederic Franklin for more than 20 years. Danilova was also a respected teacher, working with the School of American Ballet where fortunately Kat got to train and study with her.
