PT Tip of the Month
What should every dancer have in their freezer? A cold pack! The best way to deals with little sprains and strains and more serious injuries is quick treatment with cold or cryotherapy! Sprained ankles and pulled muscles are common injuries that can put serious dancers on the sidelines. What will get you back on your feet more quickly? Knowing how to properly ice your injury.

Apply ice to the affected area as quickly as possible, since the effect of icing decreases rapidly after 48 hours. Place an ice pack (covered with a towel if it feels too cold) directly on the injury, but occasionally move the ice around in a gentle massage, which will also help reduce swelling. Watch the clock carefully: Icing more than 10-15 minutes can cause damage to your muscle tissues. Allow about 45 minutes before you start to ice your injury again. Not sure if you should be icing? Consult your doctor or physical therapist. Go here to learn more. -Patrick Wenning Physical Therapy (he's in your 7:30 class)646-712-2064 patrickpt@nyc.rr.com
